Civil Infrastructure

Creating safe, accessible, and resilient landscapes

Civil infrastructure: or as we like to say, the all-too-often unsung hero of any engineering development. When thoughtfully constructed, civil works often blend into the existing landscape as people navigate their surroundings. Yet there’s a lot to consider, both above and below the surface.

We work with diverse clients—public, commercial, private, and industrial—across several geographies with unique site challenges, steering projects from inception through design and construction. Our team integrates practical hands-on construction experience into our design philosophy. We prioritize a deep understanding of the entire site, potential impacts on surrounding areas, and current and future usage of the space. From water and wastewater systems to roadway upgrades, site developments, and building improvements, we’re there to deliver solutions that add value and stand the test of time.

"I have worked on numerous projects with Andy and the civil team at EastPoint, and have found that they are always up for a challenge and willing to work with us to find the best way to turn a design into reality."

Commercial

Elevating corporate spaces and workplace environments

More than simply a building or site, commercial spaces represent hubs of productivity, collaboration, and growth. Commercial spaces should be welcoming and attractive, highly functional and efficient, and cultivate a shared experience that forms when bringing people together.

Commercial upgrades can transform a client’s business when done right. Whether we’re modernizing workspace environments, expanding usable space, or assessing options for a new facility, we take care to understand the business drivers at play. We work closely with clients to understand what’s important for owners, employees, tenants, building users, and customers. That way, clients can be confident their site can adapt to current and future needs and yields a return on investment.

"Our construction and building successes are almost always directly linked to the consultant teams we partner with. And, EastPoint has proven - time and time again - to be a trusted development partner, capable of balancing aggressive budgets and schedules, while at the same time being able to deliver creative, durable, and cost-effective design solutions. Community Infrastructure

Empowering community-driven infrastructure for lasting change

Thoughtfully-designed infrastructure, driven by community need, input, and involvement, can affect lasting positive change. We aim to empower communities to sustainably shape the built environment in the face of a changing climate. Acknowledging the unique challenges faced by remote and Indigenous communities from colonialism, we seek to accommodate and overcome these impacts through trust, respect, and hard work.

We support projects from inception to operation—from strategy, needs assessments, funding and grant applications, through to feasibility studies, design, tendering and negotiation, and construction. We partner with and involve Indigenous-owned businesses in the procurement process. Embodying the principle of ‘nothing about us without us’, we place rightsholder, community, and stakeholder engagement at the core of our approach. This way, projects address immediate needs while being true to community culture and values. Recognizing the limits of our knowledge, we embed community members in our team and emphasize capacity building where possible.

Defence & Secure Environments

Designing project solutions within specialized contexts

Military infrastructure, correctional facilities, and public safety buildings need to be ready for several important tasks—from defending our sovereignty and responding to emergencies, to managing day-to-day operations and safely housing people and property. Given security requirements, these spaces often require dedicated support infrastructure and services.

Our involvement spans from routine to complex. We’re involved with everything from sustainable power sources, water and wastewater infrastructure, advanced communication systems, and specialized structures designed for specific purposes, such as research labs, training grounds, and storage facilities for sensitive materials and equipment. We design in consideration of restricted access points, surveillance systems, blast resistance and other defensive measures, while never losing sight of the diverse needs and users of each facility.

Education

Reimagining the learning environment

Say goodbye to dreary corridors, fixed furniture, and single-purpose spaces. Today’s educational landscape, from pre-primary to post-secondary institutions, demands transformative design that places learners at the heart of every space. This calls for a modern approach to learner-centered design that’s focused on flexible, technology-enhanced, community-inclusive, and sustainable features.

Our team works collaboratively with administrators, builders, educators, students, and community members to envision the project outcome. This way, we integrate educational objectives, building standards, budget considerations, and future adaptability in our design. Whether it’s rethinking how spaces connect, improving building efficiency, designing a renovation or new site, or advising on campus-wide improvements, we’re dedicated to fostering engaging, forward-thinking spaces that align with both educational goals and community vision.

Housing Portfolio

Strengthening supply for longevity

More than ever, housing is recognized as a cornerstone of community well-being. While the acceleration of new housing supply is needed, achieving optimal supply also requires maintaining and revitalizing existing housing stock. We’ve rolled up our sleeves to work alongside public agencies, non-profit organizations, and property management companies on comprehensive housing portfolio management—spanning several units, buildings, and locations.

Our services provide the roadmap for healthy, durable housing with predictable budget forecasts. We develop energy and emissions management strategies to reduce energy usage, GHG emissions, and utility costs, and recommission residential buildings to make sure systems are performing as intended. Through building inventory assessments, asset management plans, and reserve fund studies, we offer insights for short, medium, and long-term building interventions. By enhancing the sustainability of housing portfolios, we’re ready to play a part in the housing solution.

"EastPoint's expertise and dedication have led to significant results in our housing initiatives. Their guidance and support have contributed to the successful expansion of our housing stock and notable reductions in energy consumption. These achievements wouldn't have been possible without their valuable insights and innovative solutions."

Marine Infrastructure

Developing robust and practical marine solutions

Marine structures are exposed to the harshest of elements: wind, waves, salt, storms, freezing temperatures, and heavy loads. Whether it’s for a small craft harbour, an industrial barge, or a ferry terminal, marine structures require a specialized approach throughout design and construction to withstand environmental forces, to meet complex regulatory requirements, and to safely service operational and user needs—all while working within tight capital budgets and timelines.

We collaborate with commercial, industrial, government, military, and private owners, taking the time to understand the unique opportunities and constraints of each site. Our team has practical experience working with timber, concrete, steel, and composite materials. We inspect, design, and rehabilitate marine structures using an outcome-focused approach that optimizes capital, maintenance and operation costs, extends the service life of existing assets where possible, and allows coastal communities to flourish.

“Build Nova Scotia has worked with EastPoint on many projects over the past several years including COVE interior fit-ups, George’s Island wharf and floating infrastructure, Lunenburg Shipyard Recapitalization, as well as various engineering assessments and inspections on existing infrastructure.
