About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Director, you’ll play an integral role in developing and implementing technical solutions across a wide range of project types. Working within an experienced design team, you’ll contribute through all project phases—from proposal and feasibility assessment through detailed design, tendering, construction, and commissioning.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design of HVAC systems, including Air Handling Systems, Boiler Systems, Air and Water Source Heat Pumps, Electric heating systems, and associated Controls and Building Automation Systems.
  • Design of Plumbing and Fire protection systems.
  • Development of design calculations, including heating and cooling requirements, ventilation requirements, and plumbing system sizing to inform equipment selections to suit project requirements.
  • Conducting code reviews, including ASHRAE, CSA, National Building Code, NFPA, National Fire Code, National Energy Code, and Provincial Regulations etc. to ensure safe and code-compliant design drawings.
  • Working with vendors to obtain selections for Air Handling Units, Pumps, Boilers, Heat Pumps, etc. to serve project requirements and to coordinate with Electrical, Structural, Architectural, and Civil disciplines as required to develop complete construction drawing packages.
  • Develop NMS book-specifications to accompany Design Drawings, clearly defining equipment, material, and performance requirements.
  • Develop Concept Design Reports and Options Analyses to guide clientele through the schematic design phase of projects, helping to provide design solutions that fit operational requirements and client budgets.
  • Conduct detailed site visits, obtaining site information required to develop a well-coordinated design package.
  • Develop proposals, based on client RFP requirements, clearly defining scope of work, project budget, timeline, and deliverables to suit the client’s needs
  • Participate in project management, including holding design meetings, client meetings, team coordination, budgeting, scheduling, change-order control, and invoicing.
  • Provide Tender and Construction Phase support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, attending construction meetings, performing deficiency reviews, and providing closeout deliverables.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships through clear communication and consistent, high-quality deliverables.
  • Completing project designs on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensuring all work aligns with EastPoint’s safety culture, building codes, and client policies.

Qualifications and Experience

We’re seeking a mechanical engineer who combines strong technical ability with a collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for learning and growth. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in mechanical design and project delivery, along with the drive to contribute to a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university.
  • 4-10 years’ experience
  • Eligibility for Reliability status through CISD within six (6) months.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Engineers Nova Scotia or ability to obtain registration with Engineers Nova Scotia by transferring from another Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical engineering design software such as Block Load, Carrier HAP, or equivalent sizing software, Autodesk Products (AutoCAD, TrueView, REVIT), and MS Office 365.
  • An ability to confidently apply experiences based on previous works to new sectors of endeavor.
  • Familiarity with Project Management processes, including safety, quality, schedule, budget, and risk.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in French and English is considered an asset but is not a requirement.
