EastPoint is looking for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer with at least 5 years of experience in the geotechnical engineering industry with project management experience considered a strong asset.  In this role, you will be an integral part of the engineering team, developing and implementing technical solutions in both the office and field. You will participate in all project design phases, from proposal preparation, feasibility assessment and geotechnical investigation to multi-disciplinary design work. The successful applicant will be involved in meaningful technical work and take on project responsibility immediately as part of a small, focused team.

Type of Projects You’ll Work on

EastPoint’s collaborative environment will get you in on the ground level with many different types of projects, including:

Primary Accountabilities

We count on your expertise to:

  • Coordinate, Plan and Supervise Geotechnical Field Investigations including geotechnical drilling, lab sampling, and field testing.
  • Complete Geotechnical Investigation Reports including interpretation of geotechnical data (soil and rock), factual summary, recommendations for foundations (shallow and deep), and construction recommendations tailored to the specific project.
  • Assist EastPoint’s multi-disciplinary team in overcoming challenges related to subsurface conditions and providing geotechnical guidance.
  • Leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Conduct site inspections, as well as prepare technical reports.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships along with the growing team.

Skills / Training Requirements

  • Currently registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Nova Scotia or the ability to register with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline (Mining, Geological etc.) from an accredited University required.
  • 5+ years’ applicable experience in completing geotechnical field investigations and preparing Geotechnical Investigation reports.
  • Pile Driving Analysis (PDA) or other construction monitoring experience considered an asset.
  • Experience with borehole logging software such as gINT or RSLog
  • Demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical design in compliance with industry standards
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design.
  • Demonstrated self-starter.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to travel to various locations across Canada, typically no more than 10 days per 60-90 days.
  • Must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License
  • All successful applicants must meet requirements to obtain a minimum of Reliability Status clearance through the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) within 6 months of start date.
