About Our Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Building Commissioning Project Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in building systems commissioning, with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, and control systems. Whether your background is as a technologist, engineer, or commissioning professional, you will apply your technical and practical skills to ensure building systems perform efficiently and reliably. This role plays a critical part in supporting sustainable building operations, optimizing energy efficiency, and ensuring high-performance standards across diverse projects. The position involves both in-office work and on-site activities at construction sites across Canada.
Primary Responsibilities
You will manage, lead and support commissioning projects during pre-design, design, construction, and post occupancy phases. You will support the following commissioning activities:
- Develop and maintain the Owner’s Project Requirements
- Develop CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems plans and direct on-site testing.
- Review design documents, construction plans, and system specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and best practices.
- Perform on-site reviews at construction sites across Canada to assess installation quality and adherence to standards.
- Chair and minute commissioning meetings with the commissioning team (owner, contractors, design team, and users).
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, including pre-functional performance testing checklists, testing procedures, schedules, and reporting.
- Coordinate with contractors, designers, and building owners to identify and resolve issues during the commissioning process.
- Conduct on-site testing of building systems and verify performance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and automation systems.
- Document and track commissioning activities, providing comprehensive reports detailing system performance, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting issues and optimize building system performance.
- Participate in post-occupancy evaluations to ensure continued system functionality and performance.
Required Qualifications

- 3+ years of experience in building systems commissioning, with an emphasis on mechanical, electrical, or control systems.
- Design or construction support experience for projects in Canada.
- Participation in construction projects that have followed a commissioning process.
- Support in the delivery of design, construction, or commissioning projects.
- Strong ability to interpret design documents, construction drawings, and system specifications.
- Valid driver’s license to drive to construction sites within Atlantic Canada and willingness to travel to project sites outside of Atlantica Canada.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a focus on detail and system optimization
- Strong communication and technical report-writing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in building systems commissioning, with an emphasis on mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with experience in design and construction support of electrical, mechanical, or automation systems.
- Knowledge of commissioning standards and guidelines (e.g., ASHRAE, CSA, LEED), Canadian electrical code, HVAC Standard and Guidelines (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, NEBB, etc), Plumbing codes and Standards (NPC, CSA, etc.), and Canadian building code.
- Experience leading design, construction, or commissioning projects.
- Design and construction support background as a technologist, engineer, or commissioning professional, or equivalent experience in building mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Experience with overseeing commissioning projects following ASHRAE commissioning guidelines and standards, CSA commissioning standards, Green Globes, and LEED V4/V4.1 fundamental and enhanced commissioning guidelines.
- Experience with CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems.
- Proficient in using commissioning tools, software, and testing equipment.
- Hold a valid commissioning designation (e.g. CBCP, CCP, BCxP, etc.),
- Commissioning of hospital systems.
