About Our Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Building Commissioning Agent to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in building systems commissioning, with a strong focus on electrical systems such as lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and security systems. Whether your background is as an electrical technologist, red seal electrician, electrical engineer, or commissioning professional, you will apply your technical skills to ensure building systems perform efficiently and reliably. This role plays a critical part in supporting sustainable building operations, optimizing energy efficiency, and ensuring high-performance standards across diverse projects. The position involves both in-office work and on-site activities at construction sites across Canada.
Primary Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead commissioning activities for building systems, with emphasis on electrical systems (e.g., lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and security systems).
- Lead and assist with developing CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems plans and on-site testing.
- Review design documents, construction plans, and system specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and best practices.
- Perform on-site inspections at construction sites across Canada to assess installation quality and adherence to standards.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, including testing procedures, schedules, and reporting.
- Coordinate with contractors, designers, and building owners to identify and resolve issues during the commissioning process.
- Conduct on-site testing of building systems and verify performance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and automation systems.
- Document and track commissioning activities, providing comprehensive reports detailing system performance, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting issues and optimizing building system performance.
- Participate in post-occupancy evaluations to ensure continued system functionality and performance.
Required Qualifications

- 5–10 years of experience in building systems commissioning, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems (lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, security, etc.).
- Technical background as an electrical technologist, red seal electrician, or equivalent experience in electrical building systems.
- Solid knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and commissioning guidelines (e.g., ASHRAE, CSA, LEED).
- Strong ability to interpret design documents, construction drawings, and system specifications.
- Proficiency with commissioning tools, software, and electrical testing equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites across Canada.
- Strong communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- All successful applicants must meet requirements to obtain a minimum of Reliability Status clearance through the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) within 6 months of start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with overseeing commissioning projects following ASHRAE commissioning guidelines and standards, CSA commissioning standards, and LEED V4/V4.1 fundamental and enhanced commissioning guidelines.
- Experience with CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems.
- Strong understanding of building systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, lighting, communication, and automation systems).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on detail and system optimization.
- Proficient in using commissioning tools, software, and testing equipment
Preferred Experience
Electrical systems background preferred, holding a valid commissioning designation (e.g. CBCP, CCP, BCxP, etc.), commissioning hospital systems, and existing building commissioning.
