EastPoint was hired as the prime consultant by Sustane Technologies Inc. (Sustane) to design a new facility which Sustane would own and operate. Sustane has developed a set of disruptive separation technologies to transform municipal solid wastes (MSW) to high-value fuels and recyclable materials at lower cost than landfilling. EastPoint was the owner’s engineer and prime design consultant for the concept, design, optimization, construction and start-up of Sustane’s first North American facility, located in Chester, NS.
Building envelope, interior fit-out/furnishing, barrier-free accessibility, interior view planes to shop floor, physical security, Design for Safety, specifications for windows and doors, roofing, cladding & interior finishes.
Detailed mechanical systems designs included energy management control systems (BAS), heating and cooling (HVAC), and plumbing systems and sprinkler systems.
Designs for the electrical systems included power, lighting, data & communications, security systems, and fire alarms.
EastPoint also developed detailed designs for the building civil systems and parking lot including grading, drainage, all designs for connecting in to underground services for water, sanitary & storm sewer.
All structural connections and material sizing designs for the building, including the roofing design, and significant foundation designs for fuel tanks, silos, vehicle aprons, and process equipment.
The entire building was 3D modeled in Revit with supporting 3D laser scans to capture and virtually recreate the site. The 3D models simplify the process of identifying and resolving potential design conflicts before they are costly construction issues.
