North Park Armoury
EastPoint is very proud of the work we are doing to support DND and Defence Construction Canada (DCC) in the rehabilitation of the North Park Armoury. The North Park Armoury has been a staple of Halifax’s North Commons area for over 120 years. This iconic building is a federal heritage building and National Historic Site. This challenging project has brought together many of our people across multiple disciplines of Architecture and Engineering and has used some of our most interesting tools and techniques to accomplish the work.
Challenged by the historic nature of the envelope, various architectural approaches were used to identify repairs and maintain the building while allowing for increased functionality within the operational areas.
Structural assessments, including seismic analysis of the structure, revealed historic damages and lead to changes in the understanding of the building’s life.
The North Park Armoury was the first building in Halifax to shine with electric lights. In recognition of the building’s leading role as an innovator, modern Energy approaches were sought to reduce the buildings carbon intensity and increase sustainability and once again make the building shine.
Virtual Reality workshops featuring complex 3D models built from LiDAR scans allowed our teams to display concept features and receive feedback from users in real time, as if the final product already existed"
