Georges Island Wharf Reconstruction
EastPoint was contracted by Develop Nova Scotia to complete a redesign of the Georges Island Wharf. Georges island is a historic site located in the center of Halifax Harbour with views of both the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfront. As part of the plan to reopen the site to the public, a new wharf was needed to accommodate boaters and passenger ferries.
As an important historic site in Halifax Harbour there were significant environmental and archaeological approvals required from four levels of government prior to construction. Our engineering teams designed a new wharf with climate resiliency and passenger safety front of mind.
Within the passenger reception areas, new profiles and stormwater solutions were required to match the increased heights of the new more resilient wharf. This was a significant challenge given the locations of many nearby historic buildings and a desire to maintain a small site footprint.
