Protecting your building’s ultimate performance

Walls, roof, windows, doors, and foundations—when properly designed, installed, and tested—form a critical barrier between a building’s indoor and outdoor environments. A durable envelope addresses risks of unwanted heat, air, and moisture transfer. Without diligent oversight throughout project design and construction, these benefits are often compromised or missed.

Our Approach

We bring together our building science, design, and construction experts to manage the envelope as an integral part of a building’s overall performance.

  • Understand performance requirements: We confirm the goals for the building and envelope relating to energy efficiency, durability, sustainability, and occupant comfort.
  • Design to local environment: We factor in local weather patterns, temperature fluctuations, humidity levels, and precipitation, tailoring the building envelope’s design and specifying proven materials for optimal performance.
  • Integrate systems: Building systems may be working harder and less efficiently than needed if an envelope is not meeting its designed intent. We seek to eliminate inefficiencies in the building envelope during design and construction.
  • Be involved early and often: Whether we’re involved as designer or as independent commissioning provider (BECx), we seek to be involved as early as pre-design to help meet the owner’s project requirements. We’re involved with drawings, specifications, and shop drawings throughout design and tender phases, as well as construction phase and testing.
