Jamie Wright Joins Advisory Board

EastPoint is pleased to welcome nationally acclaimed architect Jamie Wright to its advisory board.

Jamie is a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and attended the Dalhousie School of Architecture and the Harvard Graduate School for Design. He is a former president of the Ontario Association of Architects, where he received the Order of da Vinci award for his significant contribution and leadership to the profession.

Jamie established the firm Young + Wright in 1980. The company grew to 120 people with offices in Toronto and Vancouver and merged with IBI Group Architects in 2008. Jamie was a director at IBI for 10 years until his retirement, and played a key role in opening IBI’s Halifax office in 2012.

Over his 50-year career, Jamie has been involved with a range of large and complex projects. He was managing principal for the Schulich School of Business at York University, the Nova Centre in Halifax, and the HSBC Bank Headquarters in Bermuda. He was also a partner in an architectural and engineering consortium for the SkyDome (Rogers Centre) project.

Jamie values the role of managing the creative design process, and his projects have received many prestigious awards including two Governor General’s medals for architecture in Canada. He also has a lifelong interest in master planning which he views as the exercising of an architect’s collective experience.

Examples include master plans for New York City’s 2008 Olympics and Nova Scotia’s 2014 Commonwealth Games bids; master plans for several Dalhousie University campuses; the plan for the new Downtown Markham urban centre master-planned community in Ontario; and waterfront development plans for Collingwood, Windsor and Midland, Ontario.

Since his teenage years working on his grandparents’ farm in Colchester County, and his B. Arch. degree from Dalhousie, Jamie’s personal touchpoint with Nova Scotia has endured throughout his career.

“We’re excited to work with Jamie and to learn from his experiences working coast-to-coast across Canada,” says Jim Marriott, EastPoint’s Vice President of Architecture. “Jamie’s demonstrated ability to shepherd growth and expansion will cement EastPoint’s national presence.”
