"Not only are architects artists and consultants, we're often the conduit between many different viewpoints and expectations. We need to balance and coordinate the efforts of many to create a building from the ground up."

Mechanical engineers think like entrepreneurs, always seeking the best blend of resources and solutions for optimal profitability and efficiency. When it comes to the life force of a building or structure—systems that use electricity, propane, fuel, or natural gas on a daily basis—a dollar saved is a dollar earned. Efficient design makes businesses and the buildings they operate more of an asset than a liability.

To reduce energy consumption in a way that capitalizes on space or structure, we consider all the advantages of one technology over another, and mitigate costs by coming up with solutions that are highly constructible. Ease of construction and maintenance is a counterpoint to finicky bells and whistles—and makes the kind of good sense that helps organizations to not only obtain but run a solid and reliable home base for the long term.

Projects

  • Sustane Technologies – Chester Plant

EastPoint Engineering was responsible for the design of the Sustane Technologies MSW to biomass facility. EastPoint designed a high-pressure high-temperature hot water boiler to allow the biomass product to be processed. The boiler used synthetic fuel produced in the process which is similar to a number 2 fuel oil. The high temperature hot water system requires a nitrogen blanket and level control to maintain the system pressure. The system pressure is 9 bar and 150 degrees Celsius. The plant is registered with the Nova Scotia Department of Labor and Advanced Education. The boiler system is intended to run twenty-four hours a day 7 days a week with operations staff on site.

  • Halifax Sewage Treatment Plant

Working with the design build team responsible for the Halifax Harbour clean-up project, EastPoint designed and built the Halifax and Dartmouth Plant HVAC system, odour control systems, and tank vortex management and mitigation systems. These plants treat 180 million litres of wastewater per day, dramatically improving the water quality for the municipality of Halifax.

  • Aberdeen Hospital Boiler Replacement

A complicated project due to the requirement that the facility remain operational throughout, EastPoint managed the replacement of three 300 horsepower steam boilers critical to hospital care, including sterilization, kitchen and laundry, and space heating. EastPoint used 3D technology to scan the existing site, which not only assisted in the removal current infrastructure, but more importantly, ensured that none of the new boiler material interfered with existing pipes, making the project more efficient and streamlined.

  • Michelin North America

EastPoint was commissioned for a new tire conveyor for Michelin’s Sandy Springs plant in South Carolina, one of the largest tire manufacturing facilities in the world. We designed and built the conveyor in Nova Scotia, transported it, and installed it at Sandy Springs.

  • Aqualife Facility Design And Construction

AQUALIFE offers an advanced, patented logistical solution for long-haul transport between Atlantic fisheries and major urban markets. EastPoint designed and built their ground-breaking aquaport in Nova Scotia, connecting major urban markets with fresh and live seafood without compromising environmental standards.

  • Dalhousie University

Dalhousie University’s largest residence required conversion from the existing steam-fired domestic hot water system to natural gas fired system. After a comprehensive study of the existing system including cost analysis, EastPoint designed a gas-fired condensing boiler to provide heating system hot water to integrate to the existing domestic hot water distribution system.
